Obituary.
Hans C. NESTERUD, one of the early settlers of Heron Lake township, died at the home of his son, John NESTERUD, on Friday morning, March 17, 1899. Mr.NESTERUD was born on the 26th day of December, 1809, in the District of West Toten, Norway, where he was brought up to manhood. In 1832 he was married to Johanna ANDERSON, and settled on a farm and followed that occupation until he immigrated to the United States in the year 1869 and located in Spring Grove, Houston county, Minnesota. In the spring of 1870 he moved out to Jackson county, settling on a farm in Delafield township, and in the fall of 1873 he removed to Heron Lake township where he lived until the death of his wife, which occurred in the spring of 1891, and in the fall of that year he took up his residence with the family of his son, John NESTERUD, where he was taken care of up to the time of his death, which occurred last Friday morning. He was eighty-nine years, two months, and twenty days. His marriage was blessed with a family of six children, four boys and two girls, of whom five are still living to mourn the loss of a beloved father. Mr. NESTERUD was one of those quiet and unobtrusive persons who liked best the retirement that the family afforded and where he could do his duty as father and citizen.
The funeral ceremony was conducted by Rev. HANSEN of Heron Lake, and Rev. WAGNILD of Brownsburg, and was held at the Swedish Lutheran church in this city last Tuesday afternoon, and a large concourse of relatives and friends gathered to pay their last respects to the deceased.
